To wonder why another book on cross-examination is published is to evidence a lack of understanding of and appreciation for the nature of the litigator's art and the practice of law. Indeed, that for centuries it has been referred to as the practice of law suggests that the lawyer who considers the law a profession never completes his education. Thus, for the litigating lawyer who is dedicated to his profession the practice of law is and endless learning process whose most efficacious lessons come not from a classroom or professor but from other practicing lawyers and judges, - in the crucible of the courtroom, in tales told at favored watering holes and in transcripts of cases tried by litigating legends. Our hope is that sometime, somewhere, some litigating lawyer will face what appears to be an insoluble problem in cross-examination and in this book find, if not the solution, at least some thoughts on how to solve the problem.
