Jane Roberts continues her reality television show adventures in this second of three planned books in the L.A. Candy series. This story concentrates on Jane's relationships—with friends, nonfriends, and boyfriends. She can't figure out how the local gossip magazine is supplied with rumors about her. She stays in an unhealthy relationship with bad boy Jesse, who drinks and is abusive. She's too naive, or unaware, that new "friend" Madison is the source of the rumors about her. In the end, Jane learns who her true best friend is, but she is still ambivalent about her dating judgment . . . as well she should be. She is portrayed as shallow, trusts a new friend over one she's known for most of her life, and can't see what's right in front of her.
